ARPA resolution does not pass Jackson County legislature

Jackson County in Missouri is facing challenges in determining how to spend over $70 million in federal funds before the end of the year. Failure to come to an agreement on the allocation of this money will result in it going back to the federal government. County Executive Frank White was unable to attend a recent meeting due to a family emergency. In his absence, his Chief of Staff, Caleb Clifford, expressed White’s commitment to ensuring that the funds are used appropriately to maximize their impact and comply with federal guidelines.

Democratic Legislator DaRon McGee expressed frustration over the delay in deciding on a spending plan, fearing that a failure to act quickly could result in the funds being returned to Washington D.C. The current proposal put forth by Legislator Jalen Anderson includes allocating funds for courthouse improvements, building renovations, and community programs. However, there is a push for more funding to be directed towards community programs rather than infrastructure improvements.

The next legislative meeting to discuss the spending plan is scheduled for December 9th. Despite the challenges, efforts are being made to find a solution that benefits the community and prevents the money from being lost.
