A federal judge in New York has found Rudy Giuliani, former lawyer to President Donald Trump, in contempt of court for failing to comply with orders to turn over information about his assets to two former Georgia election workers he defamed. The judge stated that Giuliani had willfully violated court orders by not providing the necessary information. Giuliani blamed previous attorney’s failures and conflicting demands from his other court cases for his inability to comply. He claimed to have found the documents required by the court, but they needed amendments before they could be handed over. The two election workers had sued Giuliani for defamation after he spread falsities about the 2020 election, leading to threats against them. They were awarded $146 million in damages. Giuliani is also facing another contempt proceeding in Washington D.C. for continuing to defame the election workers on his livestreamed show. A trial will be held in January to determine the status of Giuliani’s assets, including his Florida condo and World Series rings. Giuliani’s spokesperson criticized the justice system, saying it has become a mockery with charades instead of actual hearings and trials.
