Former President Jimmy Carter was honored during a state funeral at Washington National Cathedral, attended by President Biden and other dignitaries. The Georgia native and U.S. Navy veteran was remembered for his commitment to civil and human rights, as well as his faith and service. Biden praised Carter’s character and strength, highlighting his post-presidency work and dedication to treating everyone with dignity. Carter, who lived to be 100, served one term from 1977-1981 and continued his philanthropic efforts after leaving the White House, including establishing the Carter Center. The funeral included eulogies from figures such as Steven Ford and Andrew Young, as well as performances by country stars Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood. Carter’s body will be brought back to his hometown of Plains, Georgia for a private funeral and interment. The event followed a public viewing at the U.S. Capitol and a national day of mourning declared by President Biden in honor of Carter’s legacy.
