Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach has filed a lawsuit against SARJ LLC, a company distributing pornography on multiple websites, for failing to verify the age of consumers as required by state law to prevent minors from accessing explicit content. The lawsuit was filed in Shawnee County District Court under the state’s consumer protection statute and age-determination law related to pornography. The company is accused of not employing age-gating technology, allowing unrestricted access to explicit material.
The U.S. Supreme Court is also set to hear a similar case regarding age verification laws for online sexual content. Governor Laura Kelly had allowed the bipartisan bill requiring age verification for online pornography in Kansas to become law. The lawsuit against SARJ LLC includes a list of websites offering explicit material and seeks to prohibit the company from conducting business in Kansas. While the legislation aims to protect children from harmful content, House Minority Leader Brandon Woodard raised concerns about its implementation.
