The Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services has launched the Kansas Respite for Alzheimer’s and Dementia program (K-RAD) to provide up to $1,000 per year for respite care to unpaid caregivers of people living with dementia or Alzheimer’s. With an estimated 55,000 Kansans over 65 living with these conditions, the program aims to help the estimated 89,000 caregivers in the state who often lack support and financial assistance.
The K-RAD program allows caregivers to apply for funding through their local Area Agency on Aging office, with approved respite care providers offering relief to caregivers in need. Caregivers and patients must reside in Kansas and in their own homes to be eligible for the program, with exceptions available upon request.
Recognizing the strain that caregiving can place on individuals, the K-RAD program aims to provide essential support to caregivers in need. By offering financial aid for respite care, the program hopes to alleviate the burden on caregivers temporarily, allowing them to tend to their own physical and mental health needs.
