Woman from Kansas City, Kansas arrested following a chase through western Lawrence

A Kansas City woman was arrested after leading Douglas County deputies on a high-speed chase through west Lawrence. The incident began when a deputy tried to pull over the speeding gray Nissan Altima on U.S. Highway 59 but the driver refused to stop. The pursuit continued through neighborhoods and highways southwest of Lawrence, with the suspect driving recklessly through yards and even into oncoming traffic. The Lawrence Kansas Police Department deployed stop sticks in an attempt to deflate the car’s tires, and the chase eventually ended when a deputy executed a tactical-vehicle intervention, causing the car to spin out on Kansas Highway 10.

The 39-year-old driver was arrested and taken to the Douglas County Jail on charges of felony fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer. Medics checked the driver and a passenger at the scene, with the passenger being taken to the hospital for evaluation. The sheriff’s office is also seeking to identify a driver who had to swerve off the road during the chase. Anyone with information can contact the sheriff’s office at 785-841-0007.
