The Kansas News Service, established in 2017 to address the shortage of reporting in the Midwest, was recently recognized by the Kansas Press Association for its excellence in coverage of diversity. Led by Managing Editor Stephen Koranda, the KNS team, which includes reporters from KCUR, High Plains Public Radio, KMUW, and Kansas Public Radio, produces over 1,000 pieces of original content that are distributed locally and globally.

The service is supported by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the Kansas Grantmakers in Health, the Kansas Health Foundation, and the Health Forward Foundation. Through collaborative reporting efforts, the KNS aims to keep the voices of everyday Kansans heard and provide in-depth coverage on important issues affecting the region.
