Hannah Kobayashi, a 30-year-old woman from Maui, disappeared after landing at Los Angeles International Airport from Honolulu on November 8. LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell announced that she was classified as a voluntary missing person with no foul play suspected, and a video showed her voluntarily crossing into Mexico on November 12. Despite the LAPD’s conclusion, her sister Sydni expressed confusion and frustration, fearing Hannah may be a victim of human trafficking. The family’s lawyer, Sara Azari, questioned how LAPD reached this conclusion without involving the family and urged for a more thorough investigation. The family has expressed gratitude to police and continues their search for Hannah. Since her disappearance, Hannah sent alarming texts about feeling scared and potentially having her money and identity stolen. She was last seen unaccompanied at a Greyhound bus terminal in Los Angeles and then crossed into Mexico. Her father died by suicide near LAX while searching for her. Family and supporters are determined to find her and ensure her safety, despite threats and attacks targeting them online. If anyone has information about Hannah’s whereabouts, they are urged to contact law enforcement or call the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.
